Recordando a las celebridades que nos dejaron muy pronto

El 5 de agosto se cumplieron 51 años de la muerte repentina de Marilyn Monroe, gran icono del cine de Hollywood de los años 50. Como ella, otros ídolos del entretenimiento han  quedado grabados en la memoria no sólo por su indudable talento sino por su partida sorpresiva y en la cúspide de sus carreras dejando una leyenda que los hace inolvidables. Todos ellos tienen en común una cosa: brillaron con luz propia y, mejor aún, siguen brillando después de su propia muerte. 

Vale la pena recordar a algunos de ellos...

On August 5th marked the 51 years of the sudden death of Marilyn Monroe, great Hollywood icon of the 50s. Like her, other entertainment idols have been recorded in the memory not only because of his undoubted talent but for his surprise departure and at the peak of their careers, leaving a legend that makes them unforgettable. They all have in common one thing: shone with its own light, and better yet, continue to shine after his own death.

 Había una vez un príncipe que quería casarse con una princesa, pero con una verdadera princesa de sangre real. Viajó por todo el mundo buscando una, pero era muy difícil encontrarla, mucho más difícil de lo que había supuesto.

Las princesas abundaban, pero no era sencillo averiguar si eran de sangre real. Siempre acababa descubriendo en ellas algo que le demostraba que en realidad no lo eran, y el príncipe volvió a su país muy triste por no haber encontrado una verdadera princesa real.

Once upon a time there was a prince who wanted to marry a princess; but she would have to be a real princess. He travelled all over the world to find one, but nowhere could he get what he wanted. There were princesses enough, but it was difficult to find out whether they were real ones. There was always something about them that was not as it should be. So he came home again and was sad, for he would have liked very much to have a real princess.

 

 

Una noche estalló una terrible tormenta con rayos y truenos. La lluvía caía torrencialmente. De repente se oyó como alguien golpeaba la puerta del castillo con fuerza. ¡Toc! ¡Toc!¡Toc!. El anciano rey fue a abrirla.

Era una princesa que estaba afuera, frente a la puerta. Pero, ¡Dios mio! ¡qué aspecto presentaba con la lluvia y el mal tiempo! 
One evening a terrible storm came on; there was thunder and lightning, and the rain poured down in torrents. Suddenly a knocking was heard at the city gate, and the old king went to open it.

It was a princess standing out there in front of the gate. But, good gracious! what a sight the rain and the wind had made her look. 

 

 

El agua le goteaba del pelo y de las ropas, le corría por la punta de los zapatos y le salía por el tacón y, sin embargo, decía que era una princesa auténtica. 

“Bueno,  eso pronto lo sabremos”, pensó la anciana reina. Y sin decir palabra, fue a la alcoba, apartó toda la ropa de la cama y puso un guisante en el fondo. Después cogió veinte colchones y los puso sobre el guisante, y además colocó veinte edredones sobre los colchones.

The water ran down from her hair and clothes; it ran down into the toes of her shoes and out again at the heels. And yet she said that she was a real princess. 

“Well, we’ll soon find that out,” thought the old queen. But she said nothing, went into the bed-room, took all the bedding off the bedstead, and laid a pea on the bottom; then she took twenty mattresses and laid them on the pea, and then twenty eider-down beds on top of the mattresses.

 

La princesa tuvo que dormir allí toda la noche.

A la mañana siguiente le preguntaron como había dormido.

On this the princess had to rest all night 

In the morning she was asked how she had slept.

“¡Oh, terriblemente mal!” -dijo la princesa-. “Apenas si he pegado ojo en toda la noche. ¡Sabe Dios lo que habría en la cama! He dormido sobre algo tan duro que tengo todo el cuerpo lleno de magulladuras. ¡Ha sido horrible!”

“Oh, very badly!” said she. “I have scarcely closed my eyes all night. Heaven only knows what was in the bed, but I was lying on something hard, so that I have bruise all over my body. It was horrible!”  

 

 

Así supieron que era una princesa de verdad, porque había notado el guisante a través de veinte colchones y de veinte edredones. Sólo una auténtica princesa podía haber sido tan sensible.

Now they knew that she was a real princess because she had felt the pea right through the twenty mattresses and the twenty eider-down beds. Nobody but a real princess could be as sensitive as that. 

    

El príncipe la tomó por esposa, porque ahora podía estar seguro de que se casaba con una princesa auténtica, y el guisante entró a formar parte de las joyas de la corona, donde todavía puede verse, si no lo ha robado nadie. 

So the prince took her for his wife, for now he knew that he had a real princess; and the pea was put in the museum, where it may still be seen, if no one has stolen it.  

Y colorín colorado, este cuento se ha acabado...

And they all lived happily ever after...
